So, Who Was St Valentine?

He is the patron saint of lovers – but did you know hes also the patron saint of epileptics and beekeepers too?

There are various legends as to the exactly who he was, but the most popular held belief is that St. Valentine was a Roman priest and physician who suffered martyrdom during the persecution of Christians by the emperor Claudius II Gothicus in about 270.

The stories tell that St. Valentine signed a letter “from your Valentine” to his jailers daughter, whom he had befriended and healed from blindness.

Another common legend states that he defied the emperors orders and secretly married couples to spare the husbands from war. Valentines Day as a lovers festival dates at least from the 14th century.

HOW TO CELEBRATE?

We believe you should celebrate love every day, but having a specific day is no bad thing – sometimes we all need a little reminder right?

Light those candles and create an atmosphere. Go for a classic steak and chips (or cauliflower steak!) or order your favourite take away - but make the setting special.
